REGATTA, SUNDAY 15th AUGUST 2004

A fabulous day on the water with ideal conditions for getting the races run, followed

by a first class BBQ in a warm summer sun with the wind down to a gentle breeze. It

does not get much better than this.

The first race was at 1100; the wind was up to about 15 knots true out of the

southeast. We had two races before the lunch break and a short and longish race

after the lunch break. Most importantly we were all done by about 1630 which

allowed everyone to pitch in a get the BBQ organized by 1700.

I would like to use this report to tell you about the BBQ, it was that good, but that’s

not my task; you will have to ask one of the 30 or so people who attended.

The racing fell into a pattern with ELECTRA, FINAL DASH and WESTWIND out in

front, ALACRITY sailing a solitary race in the middle with MINKE and CAT

DANCER having fun at the back. It was tough to change this routine, the lead boats

were all being sailed very well and there were no holes to fall into. ALACRITY split

a sail in the third race and CAT DANCER went to town for lunch.

The first three races were all variants of Ganges Shoal, the buoy close to Goat

Island, the start line, the speed buoy and home. The last race was Batt Rock, U62,

Welbury and home, all to port. A review of elapsed times will show that it was a

very quick day all round.
