It was a gentle
evening on the water. Eight boats were out and the wind was light
from the
southeast. Your scribe is still fixing his boat so the start was seen from
ashore. It
appeared that the learning curve for the start was a curve in progress for
some.
FANDANGO and FINAL DASH were leading the pack in the first leg to
Ganges
Shoal but at the
leeward mark it was FINAL DASH ahead with FANDANGO and
ELECTRA in close
company at the turn. WESTWIND was not far behind and both
CAT DANCER and SHADOW looked good upwind by not so good downwind.
At the end of the
second circuit FANDANGO
and ELECTRA were still
fighting it out
and the small
crowd at the finish line enjoyed the luffing match between these two
well sailed boats.
The wind died
before the last boats were home. SHADOW motored for home but
CAT DANCER hung in to the end and recorded a finish
time. The corrected results
show how close the
racing really was.
