1) Wednesday evening the 4th May.
Only two boats showed for this, the first of the evening series, DERYN MOR and ELECTRA. It was to no
avail as there was no wind and Roger and Kevin went home.
2) Wednesday evening the 11th May.
A little better this time as three boats showed up and a great warm wind from the southeast was in place.
The simple course of Batt Rock, U62 and home was selected. The trick was getting to Batt Rock as this
determined the finishing order. A great evenings sail with a long, fast spinnaker run home.

3) Bas Cobanli Memorial Trophy, Sunday 15th May.
The heavy rain at 0800 had cleared by 0915 and a goodly crowd gathered at the head of the
dock for the skippers meeting at 0930. The course was ambitious, being Batt Rock, U62,
Welbury, Batt Rock, U62, Welbury and home. All marks to port.
Ten boats crossed the line, including the well-known ‘J Boat’ RUMB LINE from RVYC.
FANDANGO picked up a great wind on the south shore and took the lead, hotly pursued by
ELECTRA and RUMB LINE. These three were the only boats to round Batt Rock without falling
into a hole somewhere on the first leg and they acquired an unassailable lead. ALACRITY and
AQUILA MIA found a hole just before Batt Rock, allowing SOUL DANCER and FINAL DASH
through. QUESTO was pulling ahead of MINKE and CAT DANCER. The close reach to U62
was easy enough as the ebb was only starting to run. The spinnaker run to Welbury was a
nightmare. Holes and wind shifts all over the place. The second circuit was similar to the first
except the ebb was now a much stronger ebb and the wind was more fickle; it required great
caution at U62 to avoid being swept onto the hard barnacle-encrusted mark.
For most of us, a dramatic wind shift before Welbury--which saw limp spinnakers hurriedly
dropped and secured before 15 knots of westerly hit--had us hard on the wind at hull speed. It
was a beat all the way home with some unpredictable shifts along the way. Another great day
on the water and the forecast rain held off until we were all home. Result, time on time:
