BEN MOHR ROCK RE-RUN, 12TH FEB., 2006

 

 

As we were enjoying our coffee and muffins in the Club House a South Easterly wind

was working its way up the harbour. At 1200 hrs as seven boats crossed the line there

was about 6 knots of wind. The beat to Second sister was a plesant ride with SAORSA

showing exceptional form.

 

The wind did not veer enough to allow a single tack to Scott Point. FANDANGO made a

short tack before the point then danced a jig right off the point. It appeared inevitable that

either her keel would hit the rock off the point or her mast would scrape the cliff face. In

fact neither happened and she went on to clear Nose Point in similar fashion.

STRAWBERRY EXPRESS attempted the same maneuver a little later and found the

rock with her keel. Scott reported no damage but with a few barnicles removed the boat

was going much better. (STRAWBERRY EXPRESS did not finish as she was destined

to RVYC while “C” dock is being replaced.)

 

The wind went light on the way to the Ben Mor buoy and the flood tide at the buoy was

surprisingly strong for a 2/- rise. FANDANGO rounded first with ELECTRA and SAORSA

rounding together, the latter by mere inches. SOUL DANCER, ALACRITY,

STRAWBERRY EXPRESS and MINKI followed.

 

Hoisting a spinnaker for the return to Captains passage was a marginal call and all but

ALACRITY had them down by Pelly Point and re hoisted once past Scott Point for the

run to the finish where ELECTRA received Line Honors.

 

The result table below reflects the new performance based handicap system as

developed by the Turkey Head Sailing Club in Victoria. This coupled with the time on

time scoring will see close finishes on corrected time with the hope that a wider range of

boats will be seen on the top line.

The next race is the McMILLAN TROPHY RACE next Sunday 19th Feb. This will be

a 1000 start but we will again be having coffee and muffins in the Club House

at 0900
