Portland Moresby re-run April 27, 2008

Portland Moresby re-run  April 27, 2008

Given that this is the second longest race in the club calendar, we hope for moderate to strong winds to get us round in the prescribed 11.5 hours.   The race was abandoned  April 20 due to lack of wind, although Alacrity made it round both islands and was on her way home with the tide when the wind died completely about 7pm.  Six skippers decided to try again Sunday, but the wind was even lighter than last week so a (very) short course to Deep Ridge buoy was set.  After the slow motion start, and several tacks up the harbour, Imp showed her light air abilities and edged into the lead followed closely by Caliente and Electra.  Minke turned back early to do some sewing at the club and Soul Dancer waited till after lunch to pack it in.  Arbitrage managed to overtake Electra about mid-course and 4 boats finished with a 1 hour spread.  The average speed to the mark was 1-1.4 knots so congratulations to all finishers for their perseverance.
