A measured 14 knots on the pier greeted the sailors as they gathered for the start. The course – U62 to starboard, Ganges Shoal to starboard, and home.

On Kay D, Greg Slakov and Rob Denny decided that the chop out past the Second Sister was a bit much for their first trip out in Martin and Tony's little flier, so they went home. Impossible had a reef in the main, Caliente blasted out into first right from the get-go, and I would assume a rousing sail was had by all.

Modest wind, nice warm weather. The course was Yellow Max, Speed Buoy, Grace Point, all kept to port, twice around.

The last official Wednesday night race just finished, with seven boats crossing the start line in next to no wind, which set the pace for the race; 5 of those boats did not finish due to lack of wind. The course was to Yellow Max and back to the finish line, almost a stone's throw from the Club, but even that took the two finishing boats more than an hour. There were episodes of leisurely fending off between boats drifting into each other, boats creeping backward, boats gyrating close to the shoals, and boats stalled having polite conversation with a neighbour or dipping into the beer supply early. IMPOSSIBLE while floating near the mark drifted onto it; the necessary penalty turn took nearly twenty minutes. The ebbing tide did nothing to help with racing but spirits were high and the evening was warm, so the drifting did not really matter in the end. An observer on shore commented that the becalmed fleet made a peaceful still life tableau in the evening light over the dinner hour. The hard charging racers of SSISC, I guess.

Boats that started were KAY D, MINKE, ELECTRA, CALIENTE, EMPEZAR, IMPOSSIBLE, and guest boat RHUMB LINE with skipper Gordon Wyllie and young family on board. KAY D and IMPOSSIBLE finished after finding a whisper of breeze to get home, and it was within 10 seconds of each other with Kay D taking line honours. The other five boats abandoned and motored back.
