Wednesday Night June 10, 2009

A lovely night, with an attendance to match. Start at the end of the Second Sister, round Batt Rock, Welbury Spar, and home. A well attended post-race Social was then held at the picnic tables.

A few people have questioned our finish line since the loss of the inner diamond shape. For consistency, please take your time when you are at the transit of the diamond shape on the breakwater and the peak of the gable roof on the clubhouse. There is a plan for making a more permanent inner transit mark, but for now, use the peak of the gable roof.

Wednesday Night June 24, 2009

A very shifty SE wind greeted the 7 starters. The course was to Clamshell Island in Long Harbour and back. The wind started to get fluky on the way down Long Harbour, and on the way back out, everyone was struggling with a new west wind bubbling down over Scott Point and touching down in the narrow channel in any of 360 directions. When we rounded Scott Point, the new wind was evident – a brisk westerly with gusts to 20 I suspect. Electra got away from the pack at Scott Point, while Final Dash and Imp traded places all the way home, with Final Dash crossing the line seconds before Imp. Martin Herbert, alone in Kay D, was furiously trying not to sink, and did well to come in very close to the front boats, correcting to second place. Rob, Scott's crew in Boomer, had never sailed before, and got quite an introduction. I understand that Baron Rouge not only got her rail in the water, but her cockpit coaming too! After Empezar managed to escape from the capricious breezes in Long Harbour, she came blasting up Ganges harbour, getting knocked on her ear every minute or two to the entertainment of the peanut gallery on the shore.
