Jack and Jill Race
Sunday August 22 2010
There were three boats entered, and three race reports came our way! It never rains, but it pours....
Only
three boats showed up, and although we did get a start, the wind quickly dropped
so we could barely make time against the tide. KayD was the first to retire.
Paramour made it past Ganges Shoal but after a half hour of tacking back and
forth to get to the same crab trap we packed it in. Tigger Too was
still trying to get to the Channel Islands when we turned back, but I saw them
coming in as I was leaving the club an hour or so later, so I assume they
retired as well. Still a nice day on the water, and Phillipe makes a very
fetching and mysterious lady with his/her kilt, head scarf and shades.
The flirting was scandalous, and I think the other women were jealous, but
the other skippers didn't seem to mind the shemale advances.

Editor's note: I recieved the following not 15 minutes after I sent out Eric's Report. Another version of the same event, apparently. -Greg
The
westerly that had battered all night saw fit to die 5 minutes after the 10:30
am downwind start, but Julie and Craig on Tigger J thought they could
see a wee bit of breeze on the left side, so headed over and slowly jibed
on down to the Sisters while Kay D and Paramour tried the Salt Spring side.
Kay D retired early, but eventually Paramour got a narrow tongue of westerly
breeze and crept up that side, catching up and doing so well that when it turned
to inflow they kept going on up the beach past Ganges Shoal to avoid the strong
flood, while Tigger decided to keep further out in slightly stronger breezes,
and eventually to brave the tide to get to the steady southeaster on the Prevost
side, which did fill in (and the tide inexplicably to start aiding them, so
that they were able to beat at ~6 knots to and around the Channel Islands, make
their circuits and headed home on reach/run at 4-5 knots, finishing at 14:36:10,
the only boat to do so!
Craig on Tigger J.
Editor's Note: Thank God there were only 3 boats in this race!
The Kay D was disqualified on the start line for hoisting a spinnaker, and then retired when the crew (martin) said "its flat as a pancake out here". The skipper (Rosemary) said "pancakes, what a good idea" and turned the boat around.
We had a great lunch at the Saltspring Inn and I went home and made some parts for the boat and put together a glue kit and meandered back to the club to see Tigger J cross the finish line at four hours and one minute for a very well deserved win. Philipe, on the other hand , is dangerously close to the "Broken Tiller" and someone should call the fashion police.
