First Aid Refresher Course

January 27 @ 9:00 am - 1:00 pm

Interested Club members are invited to participate in a first aid refresher course on Saturday January 27th from 9am – 1pm at the Clubhouse. As was mentioned at the November AGM, the Secretary has arranged this course as a convenient and inexpensive opportunity for Club members to refresh what could be life-saving skills. Think about how long ago you learned CPR for adults and children, use of an AED, splint application, how to help someone who is choking, has severe bleeding, is having difficulty breathing, or showing signs of an opiate overdose. If you have distant memories of learning these skills, or never have, don’t miss this opportunity!

The course instructor is Mysha Dewar-McClelland. She is a Red Cross certified First Aid Instructor and a Paid-on-Call Firefighter with Salt Spring Island Fire Rescue. She has a 15+ year career as an instructor of Fire and Life Safety education, Fitness, Martial Arts, anti-oppression and anti-violence training. Her teaching philosophy is “Whatever you come to me to learn, my goal will be to help empower you with that knowledge and find a way to meet each student’s individual learning needs”.

The course fee is $20 per participant. To register, please send an Interac for that amount to treasurer@saltspringsailing.ca AND include the name/names of registrant(s). Enrollment will be limited so please sign up soon if you wish to participate.

Please note that this is a refresher course, not a Red Cross First Aid certification course (which involves more hours, covers additional topics, and is more expensive).
