Our SISC Summer Sailing School Instructors are well-qualified sailors who love to teach. The Sailing School is supervised by our volunteer Club Sailing School Coordinator under the direction of our Fleet Captain Dinghy.

About Matti
Matti learned to sail at SISC and has been volunteering with the junior program for a number of years. After learning to sail in 2008, he has sailed a variety of boats ranging from Lasers to 60ft yachts in the Strait of Gibraltar.  In addition to his sailing experience he is a trained composite boat builder and commercial helicopter pilot.

About Leh
Leh is a GISS graduate who has been sailing from a young age at Saltspring Island Sailing Club. He is currently in his third year of studies at the University of Victoria in Geography. Leh is a member of the UVic Sailing Race Team and competes in collegiate regattas during the fall, winter and spring. Teaching sailing is Leh’s passion because he’s able to pass on his enthusiasm for the sport to his students and colleagues.

About Hayley
Hayley grew up on Salt Spring and is a GISS graduate. A Carleton alumnus, she is currently studying Interactive Arts and Technology at Simon Fraser University with a split-focus on graphic design and game development. Besides sailing, her interests include technology, art and literature. Hayley is excited to teach at SISC again this summer, especially the Opti advanced course.

About Oliver
Oliver was born and raised on Salt Spring and started sailing at SISC at age 11. He quickly found a passion for it, and later continued on to become an instructor at the SISC Summer Sailing School. Oliver graduated from GISS and is currently a student at the University of Victoria. Besides sailing, he enjoys swimming, snorkeling and other casual sporting activities.

About Dylan
Dylan graduates from GISS this year and has been sailing since the age of 9 at SISC. He was a member of the GISS Sailing Team that won both the high school regattas they participated in, and the following year Dylan raced 420’s placing second in the Maple Bay Regatta. Along with many years of dinghy sailing, he has also crewed on many SISC keel boat races, including Round Saltspring. Besides his passion for sailing and racing, Dylan also enjoys soccer.
